International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) is a non-profit voluntary organization founded in 1993. This medical association of over 700 physicians worldwide is dedicated to the advancement of the art and science of hair restoration.
The ISHRS, the largest society of its kind, provides continuing education to physicians specializing in hair transplantation and corrective surgery and helps to educate the public with the latest information on hair loss and its treatment including hair transplants, hair transplant repair, and non-medical hair replacement. This includes publishing a biennial survey of hair restoration practices around the world. Their website provides a searchable directory of hair restoration physicians in good standing with the ISHRS. The ISHRS also hosts an annual conference with speakers, discussion panels, and demonstrations of the latest technology and techniques in surgical hair restoration.
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) is the largest, most influential and most representative of all dermatologic associations. With a membership of over 13,700, it represents virtually all practicing dermatologists in the United States.
American Board of Dermatology (ABD) The American Board of Dermatology acts as the certifying agency for the specialty of dermatology. It exists for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.
American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) acts for the benefit of the public to establish specialty standards and to examine surgeons’ skill, knowledge and aesthetic judgment in the field of hair restoration surgery.
IAHRS The IAHRS is a patient’s advocate, profiling ethical physicians members and the state-of-the-art in hair restoration.
American Hair Loss Association is a national, non-profit membership organization dedicated to educating the public, healthcare professionals, mainstream media and legislators about hair loss. The American Hair Loss Association is guided by its Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Board with a focus on promoting public awareness of hair loss, encouraging the scientific advancement of its treatment, and assisting men and women find the appropriate treatments. It has been spearheaded by its founder and president Spencer Kobren. AHLA members are hair restoration physicians who are dedicated to treating hair loss and who are members of the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons (IAHRS).
AHLA holds their physicians to high ethical and medical standards regarding the education and treatment protocols they provide. They also provide educational materials and resources to dermatologists and other healthcare professionals interested in treating and educating hair loss sufferers.
The American Hair Loss Council The American Hair Loss Council is a not-for-profit membership agency composed of hair restoration professionals, manufacturers and service providers. The AHLC provides information to consumers to help them better understand hair loss, its causes and treatment.
American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) was founded in 1970 to promote excellence in the subspecialty of dermatologic surgery and foster the highest standards of patient care.
The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) is the largest affiliation of doctors who have training in cosmetic surgery. It is a not-for-profit organization providing information on cosmetic surgery for patients, physicians, and the media. Includes a physician search and procedural information.
American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. Founded in l93l, the society is composed of board-certified plastic surgeons who perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
National Medical Association (NMA) promotes the collective interests of physicians and patients of African descent.
American Medical Association (AMA) is the nation’s largest physicians group advocating vital national health issues.

Cutis is a 40-year-old, peer-reviewed clinical journal for the dermatologist, allergist, and general practitioner. The journal is published monthly and focuses on concise clinical articles that present the practical side of dermatology.
Archives of Dermatology publishes information concerning the skin, its diseases, and their treatment. Its mission is to explicate the structure and function of the skin and its diseases and the art of using this information to deliver optimal medical and surgical care to the patient.
