Age
The most common decade for patients to have an initial consultation for hair loss is in their 30s (32%). Sixteen percent of patients in our practice are age 29 or under.

The age of our surgical patients range from the youngest at age 6 (a female with localized congenital hair loss) to age 84 (a retired physician with androgenetic alopecia). The most common decade for patients to have a hair transplant in our practice is in their 40s (37%). Forty one percent of surgical patients in our practice are over the age of 50.

Gender
Of all patients seeking an evaluation for their hair loss, 78% are men and 22% are women. For those that actually have hair restoration surgery, 88% percent are men and 12% are women. This data suggests that, compared to men, about half as many women who are evaluated for hair loss are candidates for a hair transplant.

Occupation
The most common occupation of our patients is banking/finance. Physicians and dentists make up the second most popular category. Actors/directors/producers the third most common category, attorneys fourth, people in media fifth, fashion industry sixth, teachers seventh and police/firefighters eighth. Some of the more unusual occupations include: a yacht Captain, two professional Texas Hold’em players, and an ultimate fighter.

In-Person Hair Loss Consultation

Dr. Bernstein and Dr. Shaver take great pride in conducting a comprehensive patient evaluation and analysis before suggesting any treatment. In working with your physician on a one-on-one basis, your hair loss treatment will be designed to be as effective as possible for you. In your consultation you will learn about the causes of your hair loss and how best to treat it using medical therapies, hair transplantation, or a combination of treatments.

For those who are able to travel to New York City for an evaluation, simply fill out and submit our online physician consultation form to schedule an appointment in our state-of-the-art facility in mid-town Manhattan.

Online Consults

Although nothing replaces a one-on-one consultation, we understand that patients may not be able to travel to Manhattan to visit our physicians for an initial consultation. For this reason we offer a online consultation feature on our website. By submitting some basic information and photos of your hair loss, you can have a preliminary consultation with Dr. Bernstein or Dr. Shaver without ever leaving your home. While you will still need to visit our New York City facility for the actual procedure, an online consultation will help the doctor determine whether a hair transplant may be appropriate in your particular case.
