Hair Transplant

Dr. Wolfeld answers a common question about showering after a hair transplant. Some patients are concerned that they will dislodge transplanted grafts in the shower, but it is important to follow the showering protocol to help the healing process.

Another question that comes up in consultations is: What is the showering protocol after surgery? In our practice, we ask patients to shower the day after the procedure. They shower three times the first day, then twice daily for the ensuing week. The reason for showering is to remove scabs that form after the procedure.

It is really important to shower to remove these scabs as the healing process progresses. Now, some patients are concerned that by showering they may dislodge the grafts that were transplanted, and that’s really not the case. The grafts fit snugly into the recipient sites, and gentle showering, not rubbing the grafts, and using gentle water pressure and our specially medicated shampoo, there is really no problem showering after the procedure. It is advantageous for your healing to stick to the showering protocol right after the hair transplant.
