International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery
Founded in 1993, The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) is a non-profit medical association of over 700 physicians worldwide, who are dedicated to the advancement of the art and science of hair restoration. The largest society of its kind, the ISHRS provides continuing education to physicians specializing in hair transplantation and corrective surgery and gives the public the latest information on hair loss and treatment, including hair transplants, hair transplant repair and non-medical hair replacement.
The ISHRS web site provides users with an opportunity to hear the stories of patients who have had their hair loss treated with hair transplantation surgery. These case studies are illustrated with compelling photographs and actual patient comments. The ISHRS web site also features “Live Surgery Workshops” with hair restoration surgeons, “Ask the Expert” and the “Online Forum Article Archives”.
The “Hair Restoration Physician Search” allows web users to search a database to find a doctor who performs hair transplants near them. Many listed physicians also have a “Physician Profile Page” available on the site, providing more information about their hair transplantation practice.
The ISHRS Pro Bono Foundation has created Operation Restore for patient with special needs, such as those with hair loss from burns, cancer or other illnesses. The Operation Restore program matches prospective hair loss patients with volunteer ISHRS physicians to obtain services for restoring the physical and emotional wellness of the individual. The foundation provides financial, travel, lodging, and medical assistance to eligible hair transplant patients.
In keeping with their mission of advancing “the art and science of hair restoration by licensed, experienced physicians”, the ISHRS works with an independent survey firm to obtain annual hair transplant surgery statistics. Surveys are conducted to report trends that are of interest to their users and members of the media.
