Whether you come from the Tri-State area (New Jersey, Connecticut, Long Island, or Westchester County), Florida, California, or elsewhere in the United States… Or even if you come from outside the United States, such as our patients from the UK, Canada, India, Mexico, France, Germany, United Arab Emirates, or Brazil… The Bernstein Medical – Center for Hair Restoration in New York City makes it easy for men and women with hair loss to take the first step towards restoring their hair. We do this by making it easy to obtain a comprehensive hair loss consultation with Dr. Bernstein, no matter the distance.

For those who do not live close to our office, we have developed an online photo consultation form that will allow us to evaluate your hair loss through pictures that you submit. While you will still need to visit our New York City facility for the actual procedure, a photo consultation will help determine whether a hair transplant may be appropriate in your particular case.

In your consultation with Dr. Bernstein or Dr. Schweiger — whether in-person or via the internet — you will learn about the causes of your hair loss and how best to treat it using hair transplantation, medical therapies, or a combination of treatments.

One-on-One Hair Loss Consultation

Dr. Bernstein and Dr. Schweiger take great pride in conducting a comprehensive patient evaluation and analysis before suggesting any treatment. In working with Dr. Bernstein on a one-on-one basis, you will see that you are in good hands and that your hair loss treatment will be designed to be as effective as possible for your hair loss case. For those who are able to travel to New York City for an evaluation, simply fill out and submit our online physician consultation form to schedule an appointment in our state-of-the-art facility.

Hair Transplant Consultation from Abroad?

Although nothing replaces a one-on-one consultation, we understand that patients may not be able to travel to Manhattan to visit our physicians for an initial consultation. For this reason we offer a photo consultation feature on our website. By submitting some basic information and photos of your hair loss, you can have a preliminary consultation with Dr. Bernstein or Dr. Schweiger without ever leaving your home.

All photo consultations are done by the doctor. The doctor will assess your candidacy for surgical hair restoration or repair procedures. We do not have medical consultants or salespeople on our staff. Of course, if you are going to be traveling to the New York area, an in-person consultation in our NY office would be preferable over a photo consultation.

Scheduling a Hair Transplant Procedure

Once Dr. Bernstein or Dr. Schweiger have recommended a hair transplant procedure, you are welcome to schedule the surgery by calling 212-826-2400 or e-mailing us through our physician consult form. The availability of surgical dates is determined, in part, by the size and type of your procedure. Generally, procedures are booked between two weeks to two months in advance. Our staff will do their best to accommodate your schedule.

We do ask that patients who schedule hair transplantation procedures or corrective work following a phone or photo consultation make an appointment to see the doctor for an in-person consultation at least one day prior to the scheduled date of your procedure. This will allow the doctor to do a more precise assessment of the number of grafts to transplant or, with corrective hair transplants, to determine the extent of the repair work necessary.

All of our patients are required to have laboratory tests prior to surgery. We can provide you with a lab prescription so that you can have the tests run at your local doctor’s office or laboratory. The results can then be faxed to our office at 212-826-6200.

We will provide you with a list of New York area hotels as well as directions to our office. The hotels listed are non-solicited and the hotel/mode of transportation is at your discretion and preference.

Traveling Home After Your Procedure

While you will be physically able to travel immediately following your procedure, you will not be allowed to drive yourself that same day. We do not recommend that you fly, either. The reason for these recommendations is because the day immediately following your procedure you will be asked to wash your hair 4 times. By the second day after your procedure you will only need to shower twice a day, making traveling easier. See the Post-op Instructions page for detailed information on post-operative care.

Follow-up After Your Hair Restoration Procedure

Although it is not required that you return to our office following your hair transplant, we will remain in contact. We will call you the day after your hair restoration procedure and you are encouraged to contact us if you have any post-operative questions. We would like to see your hair transplant results one full year after the surgery, so mark your calendars!
