A Surgical Consultation Determines Hair Transplant CandidacyJuly 7th, 2014
Dr. Wolfeld answers the following question: What can I expect during a surgical consultation?
Here is a more detailed summary of the video:
Dr. Wolfeld: Many people come to our office wanting to have a hair transplant, but unfortunately, not everyone is a candidate. Because of this, the most important goal of a surgical consultation is to evaluate and determine if someone is a good surgical candidate.
To determine if you’re a good candidate during a consultation, I’ll conduct both a physical exam and use a device called a densitometer to see if you have both an adequate supply of donor hair and if your donor supply has the appropriate density; I’ll also determine if your scalp has the appropriate laxity.
If you are a good candidate for a hair transplant, I’ll draw a hairline to show you where the new hair will start and the transplant locations. After this, we’ll then have an in-depth discussion about the different types of hair transplant procedures, and we’ll talk about the most appropriate one for you.
