Dr. Bernstein on Helping 8 Year Old Girl With Hair Transplant After Brain Surgery

November 14th, 2011

Dr. Bernstein shares a story of how he helped give an 8 year old girl her life back by performing hair transplant surgery on the bald area of her scalp after a benign brain tumor was removed.

Below is a transcript of the video clip:

“I think that one of the recent patients that really comes to mind is that we had an 8 year old girl who had a benign brain tumor who had an operation. Although the surgery was successful, it left some geometric scars on the side of her head. She started the second grade and she was ok, but people started to tease her and she started to become self conscious. We were able to do a couple of hair transplants to make this whole bald area go away. And it totally changed her personality, her grades came up. I think also it got rid of her memory of the surgery. While she had the bald area, she always remembered having the tumor and afterwards, it was totally gone.”

Benefits of Using the Internet to Research Hair Transplant Procedures

November 8th, 2011

In this video clip from an interview with the Hair Transplant Network, Dr. Bernstein discusses the advantages and disadvantages of hair loss sufferers researching hair transplantation on the internet.

Below is a transcript of the interview:

“I think that the internet has helped a great deal because it allows people to get information from other patients. And I think sites such as the Hair Transplant Network are great because it’s really a destination point for people that have hair loss and it allows people in one site to be exposed to a lot of different doctors, a lot of different ideas, hear a lot of patient’s complaints, praises and it’s really just open. The internet can be bad because in some ways, what they hear are not always in peer reviewed journals but on the other hand, they hear real people speaking. There’s so much information that it’s hard for people to kind of manage it, it kind of just happens itself and it’s really just the way it is. But I think it’s a good way for people to get a lot of information really, really quickly.”

Hair Loss Treatments and Hair Restoration Procedures Provided by Dr. Bernstein

November 2nd, 2011

Dr. Bernstein discusses the surgical hair restoration techniques he employs in his practice (follicular unit transplantation (FUT) via strip harvesting and follicular unit extraction (FUE)), as well as medical hair loss treatments available for patients who are not indicated for a hair transplant.

Below is a transcript of the video interview on hair transplantation:

“Our main focus is follicular unit hair transplantation and that’s really an all encompassing procedure. It involves strip harvesting which is the main stay. We do follicular unit extraction (FUE) where we don’t use the donor strip, we use in select patients. We do a lot of repair work in our practice. Many of the old procedures such as hair plugs can be improved and we do a lot of the fine aesthetic work and we do eyebrow restoration. So we really offer the whole gamet of things and of course we also, many of our patients are on medical therapy and actually don’t need hair transplantation.”

Natural-Looking Results of Current Hair Transplant Techniques

October 26th, 2011

Dr. Bernstein talks about the benefits of today’s dense and natural looking hair transplants in comparison to old hair plugs.

Below is a transcript of the hair transplant video:

“I think that the main thing that’s happened over the last decade is that hair transplants can be totally natural and they should be. Patients should expect uniformly that their hair transplants are going to be undetectable, their hairlines are going to be soft and it should merge within your existing hair. The issue of limited donor supply is still with us. Thus, the expectation of having a full head of hair is not always possible in everybody. But I think naturalness should be a given at this point.”

How a Hair Transplant Can Change Hair Loss Sufferer’s Life

October 20th, 2011

Dr. Bernstein discusses the difference today’s surgical hair transplant techniques can make in a patient’s life, especially in reversing the results of a bad hair transplant.

Below is a transcript of the hair transplantation video for your reference.

“I think that people, especially when they’re entering the work force, especially if people are in sales, feel insecure. We had a person who was selling cars and he was 30 years old, had early frontal hair loss and totally felt that it handicapped him at work. Although I don’t think it made much of a difference, to him it was a big deal. So he came back one year after the hair transplant and said that sales have picked up, he’s more confident. Many of the people that feel they’ve had the biggest change are those who’ve had transplants previously with the old techniques. We’re able to take the old procedures where people had hair plugs pointing in the wrong direction and actually change it. And people who would walk around with hairpieces or baseball caps for years were finally able to be free of that. And then technology is only evolving over the last several years and we’re finally able to reverse a bad hair transplant.”
