Our Approach

All consultations are performed personally by Dr. Bernstein. There are no “medical consultants” or salesman in our practice. All patients are given an honest assessment of their medical and surgical options. Treatment recommendations are based solely on what is best for each patient.

At Bernstein Medical, the goal is to maximize the use of your donor hair supply to give you the most natural, long-term aesthetic results from your hair transplant surgery. We use both dense packing and mega-sessions routinely in our practice. The goal, however, is not to push the limit of the hair transplantation surgery, but rather to have a one-to-one correspondence between the hair that is harvested from the donor area and what actually grows.

Looking at our patient’s hair transplant photos, one can see the incredible results of our hair restoration surgery from using, in many patients, a modest number of grafts. This conserves donor hair for future use if the baldness progresses and minimizes the amount of donor tissue used.

In creating recipient sites, Dr. Bernstein uses lateral slits that orient the follicular unit grafts in a way that provides the most complete and natural coverage. When appropriate, we use staples in the donor closure to maximally conserve donor hair and use absorbable sutures for patient comfort and convenience. We administer vibratory anesthesia to minimize any discomfort from the hair transplant procedure.
Follicular Unit Extraction is an important technique in our practice, but it is used with the knowledge that FUE will generally not give the same yield as Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation. When Follicular Unit Extraction is appropriate, Dr. Bernstein will perform a test (the FOX test) prior to your hair replacement surgery to determine the ease of extraction and appropriate candidacy. In the procedure, Dr. Bernstein uses both the traditional FUE and the blunt dissection (three-step) technique to minimize follicular damage and maximize yield.
