We understand that patients from Ireland may not wish to take the time to travel to the United States to visit a Doctor for a consultation, only to discover that they have to return again for a procedure, or that surgery is not even recommended.

CAN I SHEDULE A HAIR TRANSPLANT WHILE I AM STILL IN IRELAND?

Yes, if you are a candidate.  Dr. Bernstein will give you an initial assessment of your candidacy for hair transplantation through your photo consultation.  Once you have had a photo consultation and he has recommended a hair transplant procedure, you are welcome to schedule the surgery with Dr. Bernstein by calling 011-212-826-2400 or e-mailing us at contact@bernsteinmedical.com.   

Generally procedures are booked between two weeks to two months in advance, but availability is based in part by the size and type of the procedure recommended.  Our staff will do their best to accommodate your schedule and travel plans.  
 
Patients who schedule their hair transplantation or repair procedure following a photo consultation are asked to meet with Dr. Bernstein for a personal consultation at least one day prior to the scheduled date of your procedure.  In this way, he can more precisely determine the number of follicular unit grafts needed, go over the details of the hair transplant and answer any questions that you may have.   

All patients are required to have laboratory tests prior to surgery. We can provide you with a lab prescription so these tests can be done in Ireland at your local doctor’s office or laboratory.  Those results can be faxed to us at 011-212-826-6200.   

WHERE SHOULD I STAY?

We would be happy to provide you with a list of local area hotels and directions to our offices from various airports in the New York and New Jersey area.  Hotel accommodations are completely unsolicited and the hotel/mode of transportation is at your discretion and preference.

 
WHEN CAN I RETURN HOME TO IRELAND? 

Although you will be physically able to travel to the airport the day after your hair restoration, we recommend that you stay in NY at least one day following your procedure.  You will be asked to wash your hair 4 times the next day, and this is most easily accomplished when not traveling.  By the second day after your procedure you will only need to shower twice a day, so traveling will be easy.  See post-op instructions  
 
DO I NEED TO COME BACK FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE?

We will call you the day after your hair restoration, and you are welcome to contact us with any post-operative questions you may have.  Although we will remain in touch with you and you may come in any time, we do not require that you return to our office immediately following the procedure.  If staples are used, they need to be removed several weeks after the hair transplant.  If you are planning to return home after the procedure, will provide you with a tool and instructions on how to remove the staples.  They can easily be removed by either any medical personnel (or even a family member).  When possible, we would like to see patients one year after their procedure, after the hair transplant has completely grown in.
